The operative phrase here is “My son took an oath…” Your son is typical of most conscientious objectors, they only become so when they find that they may be killed or injured.
When you join the military you join to kill people. I’m sorry, but that is the reason countries maintain a military. To kill their enemies!
You son should not have put on the uniform if he was not willing to fulfill his oath.
As a 12 year military veteran, who is returning to the service of our great nation, I despise Americans who join the military just to get an education. That’s what colleges and trade schools are for.
The primary reason you should join the military is to serve your country. Sure learning a skill that will help you earn a living when you return to civilian life is good, but that shouldn’t be the only, or main reason you join.
Ehren Watada has failed his men and his country. He failed to live up to the oath he took when he entered into the service of his country.
